Year 10 Work Experience
Guidelines for Students and Families

The Turing School provides our Year 10 students with the opportunity of having a one-week work experience placement during term 3.
All students need to log on to careerseastsussex using their usernames and passwords allocated to them. This should ideally be done at home. However, time is also allocated to facilitate this during base times throughout term 1 in school. Alternatively, students can see our Work Experience Co-ordinator in our school Library during breaks or lunchtimes for assistance.
There are deadlines schools have to work to set by East Sussex County Council for both Own Find opportunities and placements sourced from the list online. Any late submissions cannot be considered unless these are already pre-approved by the council.

Students can elect to source their ‘Own Find’ placement within East Sussex via a family member or friend’s own business, subject to certain caveats*. Alternatively, students can log on to the careerseastsussex website: https://www.careerseastsussex.co.uk where students make x4 choices from the list of employers, checking whether they are able to travel to and from the locations they choose, and add these to their list of x4.
Our Work Experience Co-ordinator endeavours to obtain one of these choices. However, this is not always possible due to business capacity and fluctuating employer participation in hosting students for work experience year to year. Employers are listed within the council employer list if they have hosted students previously, but there is no guarantee they can host students again in the future.
*Own Find opportunities must:-
Be located in East Sussex*.
Not be ‘sole traders’
Hold valid insurances, including Employer’s Liability Insurance
Be safe industries, for instance: no fishing, tattoo parlours. However, please contact the school to check if you are unsure.
*NB: Placements obtained outside East Sussex incur a health and safety assessment charge, which the school is unable to cover. This represents East Sussex County Council contacting the outside area council to ensure the employer holds all required insurances to host students for work experience.
Students who have been unsuccessful in being placed with an employer for whatever reason, will be expected to attend school as usual where an alternate curriculum centred around careers, often including ‘virtual' work experience is provided.
All placements are subject to completion and return of the following documents from parents and carers. These are sent via electronically from: noreply@eProspectus. It is therefore important to keep school up-dated on any changes in email addresses. Documents required are as follows:-
Parent Agreement Form
Safeguarding Agreement Form
Emergency Medical Contact Agreement Form
Students need to complete their Student Agreement Form as well, sent to the student school email address.
Diary date: 2026 block work experience weeks: 02-06 February 2026.
The date for 2027 will be announced later in the year.
