Personal Development

The Turing School offers a Personal Development curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the challenges of secondary school, encouraging them to become open-minded global citizens fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

Today’s children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world, living their lives seamlessly both online and offline. While this presents many positive and exciting opportunities, it also brings unique challenges and risks. In this environment, students need to learn how to keep themselves safe and healthy while managing their academic, personal, and social lives in a positive way.

Our core school values—Belonging, Ambition, and Respect—embody our approach and intentions toward the Personal Development (PD) curriculum.

  • Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE)

  • Fundamental British Values (FBV) and Citizenship Education

  • Careers and Living in the Wider World Education

Delivery and Mentoring

The Personal Development programme is delivered through several key channels:

  • Daily BASE Sessions: Each student has a dedicated BASE mentor who works closely with them to support their overall personal growth, overseen by our Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year and Pastoral Support Managers. Mentors see students daily during timetabled BASE, following a bespoke PD programme that supports their mental health, wellbeing, and understanding of Fundamental British Values. Mentors are also available on an ad-hoc basis whenever students have safeguarding or wellbeing worries.

  • Discrete PSHE Lessons: Our comprehensive PSHE programme is taught weekly as a standalone subject by a dedicated teaching team. Classroom learning is enhanced through workshops with external agencies, community projects, theatre productions, and guest speakers.

  • Careers & Guidance (CEIAG): Embedded within PD lessons and across the wider curriculum, our careers guidance aligns with the Gatsby Benchmarks. It encourages students to aspire to lifelong learning while building essential employability and enterprise skills for their future.

Student Leadership, Extracurriculars, and Recognition

TTS offers a rich extracurricular programme catering to a wide range of interests, including opportunities to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award and partake in a range of sports clubs. We strongly believe that all students should feel that they belong as part of our family. Student Leadership is at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated Student Prefects and Senior Prefects shape our provision and support students across the school. All students across the school have the opportunity to contribute to wider discussion through the implementation of our ‘Smart School Council’.

Our core values of Belonging, Ambition, and Respect underpin everything we do at TTS. All pupils are encouraged to participate in activities across and beyond the curriculum, contributing actively to school life and the wider community. Through these experiences, students learn to recognise their self-worth, build a strong sense of identity, and develop mutual respect when working with others.

Throughout their journey at TTS, students are regularly recognised for their achievements through regular reward initiatives. Be is Turing Turtles, Positive Pandas, Termly specific reward drives, celebration assemblies or Termly Celebration events.
